Nene Valley!

Year One absolutely loved our trip to Nene Valley Railway this week! We got to learn all about steam and diesel locomotives to inspire our continued study of them over the next few weeks! We were their first educational visit since Lockdown and they were just as enthusiastic as we were about the visit. Everyone had a wonderful time.

Instruction Writing!

In Year One this week we have been exploring the genre of instruction writing. We have been unpicking the features of instructions and today we learnt that the steps need to be in chronological order. We tried to make jam sandwiches with instructions that were not in order and they definitely looked unique! We then reordered the steps and tried again to great effect!

Our wonderful Art Sculptures…

All of this term Year One are learning about sculptures! We will be using different medias and resources to create them. This week we have been studying the artist Andy Goldsworthy and looking at his fantastic sculptures made from natural and found materials. We discussed the similarities and differences between the different sculptures and then recreated some of them in our Nature Area. Have a look at our lovely designs and see if you can work out which resources we used.

Writing in Year One…

This week we have been exploring a comical clip about a sweet dog that is inspired to build a rocket! The aim of our writing this week is to show off our use of capital letters, fingers spaces and punctuation at the ends of our sentences in some recount writing based on the events of the clip. We have also been working hard to sequence our work with adverbials of time to help organise and structure our ideas.

Here is the clip if you would like to view it: http://www.viewpure.com/CKrm4HywGO0?start=0&end=0
